Jamal Rahman

Jamal Rahman is a Karachi-based film director and storyteller, trained at the New York Film Academy in 2019. His debut short film *Elizabeth* won Best Indie Filmmaker at the Top Shorts film competition and was screened at the LA Film Awards and Sharjah Film Platform. In 2022, Rahman directed the music video for *Kana Yaari* on Coke Studio, which garnered over 89 million views. His cinematic style also shone in the *Parwaz* campaign for Generation, influencing fashion aesthetics.

His music video *Seedhi Baat* for Towers received acclaim for its neo-noir treatment, earning a nomination at the 2022 Lux Style Awards and screening at the Ghandara Film Festival. Previously, Rahman worked as a music producer at True Brew Records, where he produced music for films, commercials, and artists. In 2012, he collaborated on Mira Nair’s *The Reluctant Fundamentalist* as the Lahore audio recording arm. His sound design for *Manto* won Best Sound at the Jaipur Film Festival.

Rahman has collaborated with renowned musicians, including Atif Aslam, Ali Sethi, and Meesha Shafi, and played a role in nurturing emerging artists. His studio also operated a gig space and YouTube channel, True Brew TV, from 2012 to 2020. Recently, he directed two Coke Studio 15 music videos—*Jhol* and *Piya Piya Calling*—to critical acclaim. He is currently focused on writing short films and creating distinctive visuals for commercial projects.
